Christmas haul

December 25, 2012

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it. To those who don’t, Happy Tuesday. I hope you enjoy the Chinese buffet.

I thought I’d talk about what I got for Christmas. My brother got me The Spider-Man Vault, “a museum-in-a-book(TM)”. It’s neat. It’s just a big book detailing Spider-Man’s history, and including a few collectibles, like cards and stuff. It’s going to be fun to read through. It was written by Peter David, as a bonus.

My mom gave me a desktop calender full of problem-solving puzzles, the Amazing Spider-Man: Election Day TPB (I might do a review of it in the next few days), and three books: Stephen Colbert’s America Again, Grant Morrison’s Supergods (an analysis of superheroes and what they say about our culture), and Supervillains and Philosophy, which is pretty much what it sounds like – a book full of essays looking at supervillains and what they can teach us about philosophy. (That one may actually prove useful in my own story, The Champions, I’m such a shameless whore.) She also got me a little Buddha statue (standing and with his arms raised). She got it as something to sorta liven up my room back in college. I’m not completely sure why she went with a Buddha statue, since we’re white, she’s from Scotland, none of us are Buddhist, and I generally have a limited interest in Chinese history (mostly the Three Kingdoms period, though I want to read about more of Chinese history once I stop being so lazy). So it’s an odd choice. Still, I like it. It’s nice.

I got her two boxes of Laura Secord’s chocolates (my Canadian readers just went “Ooh”), and I got my brother Batman: Arkham City. He’s playing it now. And tonight, we’ll be having a nice turkey dinner. My mom makes a great turkey dinner. So I’m looking forward to that.

I hope you all had a good day, too.
